Spiritual Meaning of Itchy Tongue

What does an itchy tongue mean spiritually?

Spiritual Meaning of Itchy Tongue

Have you experienced an itchy tongue and thought about what it may signify? Strangely enough, numerous cultures all over the world believe this has deep spiritual significance, especially in the bible. Well this might be a bit odd if you suddenly find your tongue itching -, and you are probably wondering why and what it means.

What does it mean if your tongue is itching?

In order to shape this meaning, we need to turn to the bible to understand what the tongue means from a spiritual viewpoint. The tongue is featured quite heavily in the Bible. If we look at many Proverbs, such as 18.21, 12.80 etc the tongue can speak harsh words (which I am sure you already know). The reason I turned to the Bible first is that our term is about watching what we say. Many of the bible verses that I've read regarding the term are about being careful with what words we use.

So, an itchy tongue is all about our speech and honoring those around us. in James 3.5-6 it highlights in the verse that “the tongue is a small part of the body and makes great boasts.”

This is a very powerful verse. It later says that the tongue corrupts the whole body. Basically, the tongue from the spiritual perspective is about being careful with what we say, obviously, there could be a medical reason why your tongue is itching, but for the spiritual part, it means that we often want to win the battles.

The notion that bodily sensations such as itching are able to have spiritual consequences has its origins from the Romas. In fact, individuals from different parts of the world connect itching per say, with messages or omens from the universe. But why? Simply because a lot of ancient people thought there was a deep link between the spiritual realm as well as the actual physical world. Do I agree? Yes in some ways. There was a reason these people believed in this.

Is an itchy tongue good or bad?

In the books I have read an itchy tongue is regarded as a terrible sign in a lot of cultures. In the bible as I have said above it is about communication. For many people, it indicates that you will soon be confronted with a situation in which you have to speak the truth. For other people, this may mean that somebody is talking in a not-so- nice way about you. Strangely enough, this belief is not restricted to one specific place. It is shared across many cultures.

In certain native american customs, an itchy tongue could indicate very good news or maybe an exciting discussion that is soon to take place. In the West, it is often interpreted as an indication that a person is gossiping about you. In Welsh folklore it is about what people say to you - and will say some harsh words.

Summary

Although spiritual interpretations might be valid, it is crucial that you understand that the body has all-natural reactions. Itchy tongue could be brought on by allergies to food, or could be the result of a medical problem.
