Spiritual Meaning of Crows
What does it mean to see a crow?
You are probably here because you want to know the spiritual meaning of a crow. Maybe you saw one, maybe one followed you, maybe one was in your garden. I want you to know that the crow is a spiritual warror, in all my research, I have found out that crows are about moving between worlds. This is what it means when you see them and the actual number of crows:
- One crow for wisdom - if you keep seeing the same crow over and over it can mean wisdom is coming your way
- Two crows for cheating - if you see these in a field (or on a gate) it means that someone may have crossed you according to Welsh folklore
- Three crows for a wedding - yes this is an older supersition that it means wedding
- Four crows for silver - this is going to cross your path
- Five crows for gold - this is going to cross your path
- Six crows for banter - yes expect some laughs with this one
- Seven crows for insight - pay attention to the signs after seeing this
- Eight crows for laughter - something will crack you up today
- Nine crows for a girl - a girl will call you or send message
- Ten crows for a boy - a boy will call you
I know you probablly think that this is from that old magpie poem but it is not. I actually researched loads of old books to find out what each crow means. Now, I need to say to you that magpies are not crows and I am sure you are aware that seeing one magpie means sorrow and you have to salute the magpie to stop bad luck. I do think they can sense death. A few weeks ago I was outside a care home and one crow came and tilted it's head. It held contact with me for about 2-5 minutes. This changed my whole outlook on crows. It made me know that they can tell if something strange is going to happen. I do feel they have this sort of unique spiriutal connection.
There is in total 120 birds and the crows are the most inelligent. Crows are part of the family of birds that come under ravens, rooks, jays, jacksaws, nutcrackers, choughs and finally (as I mentioned above) magpies. In many of my 1930s books crows often appear with lot's of supersition and strange encounters. This is probablly because people know they are super clever and they learn very fast. They seem to be creative in order to live. There is reports of them "stealing food" yes you heard right! Really stealing food. Many crows also use mauipulation in order to get fed. In the fable "the Crow and the Pitcher" if you have ever read it, is about a thirsty crow dropping pebbles into a pitcher and raising the water so high it can drink. It would not suprise me if this wasn't true. I love fables. The BBC in the UK even experimented with crows to see if they can complete a puzzle, which they did. The other thing I need to mention is that crows hold funerals for the dead crows. In some cases a crow could keep a vigil for the bird that passed. It is thought by Kaeil Sift a researcher that they actually mourn just like us humans. This is insane given the size of the brain of the crow. I want you to know how massive these birds are in terms of spiriutally and why it is so important seeing them.
Is it good or bad to see a crow (or crows)?
Well to answer this we need to look into the history. Crows can mean death but I also feel that the crow is a sign something is about to happen. It is not all about death per say. If you keep seeing the crow over and over this is a sign that this is an animal totem come to help you in life. Especially if it looks you in the eyes. If you like crows, always have then this could be your spiritual animal. So when you see the crow, this is about sort of live streaming yourself into the world. Into your psychical planes, moving between worlds. In Greek tradition, crows are connected with Apollo, the god of prophecy. They had been viewed as symbols of insight and sometimes came out before significant life events, acting as messengers and guides from the gods. This is the reason why I put a crow on my tarot death card because it illustrates we are moving from death to rebirth and life again.
What is the spiritual history of crows?
Crows have a whole load of history, they have the intelligence of people, black massive appearance, and mysterious behaviour. Across spiritual traditions and different cultures, crows are typically viewed as messengers, or guides, protectors, offering greater meanings beyond the physical presence of theirs.
What does it mean to see a crow?
Seeing just one crow is usually a strong sign spiriutally, especially if you see more than one crow. Like many crows are known as a murder. I was in Milton keyens years ago and I remember I walked past a prison. Low and behond there was crows. I also remember when I visited that famous prison in San Fransisco on a boat (sorry I can’t remember right now what it was called) but basically all I saw was a load of crows.
If you feel a particular push toward the presence of the crow or it made you go “wow I saw that” then it’s good you are here. Crows are typically viewed as spiritual messengers, so when they appear in your world, it is typically an indication that you need to be aware. They could be motivating you to look deeper in the situation of yours or even think about a brand new viewpoint. This is my take on seeing crows:
What will happen once I see two crows?
Two crows: to see one crow alone is about wisdom. Well, this is a huge spiritual sign. In may ways, from my view point, a crow is about change, transformation, or perhaps religious growth. I also feel that crows are messengers from above. With their sharp intelligence (they have a brain of a 2 year old) and perception of the surroundings.
If a crow is found in your garden, it can be a message to be more aware and expect some challenges ahead. Crows can also be seen as protectors, providing guidance during periods of uncertainty.
Crows are birds, and they don't really know you are there. Seeing a crow pearched on a fence (as this is quite common) is about something that is about to be started in life. If you keep seeing a crow outside your house then this is a reminder that things are going to be good going forward and the crow is there to sort of tell you everything is going to be okay.
Does seeing a crow mean death?
I do think given my experience of seeing tons of crows outside prisons this is about change, and bad energy. II have written about this in my animal totem pages, but I am going to cover it here too. The crow's symbolism is varied and rich, representing from transformation to intelligence. These birds tend to be connected with change, personal or spiritual particularly development. While crows are already connected to death in certain stories, it is well worth remembering that death typically means the conclusion of something old, making way for brand new beginnings. Crows hold an area in most countries globally due to the intelligence of theirs, mystical nature, and link with each death and life. Across different mythologies, they're viewed as symbols, protectors, or messengers of transformation. Here is a brief appearance at just how various cultures view crows.
What is the folklore around crows?
In celtic tradition, Connected with the goddess Morrigan, who might shape shift right into a crow, they're viewed as omens of fate, frequently appearing before battles to foresee and also influence results. Crows likewise symbolise rebirth and death in Celtic beliefs.
In native america crows are believed to be sacred creatures with strong ties to the spirit world. Tribes such as Sioux and Hopi see them as spiritual guides, bringing messages and wisdom from ancestors, symbolising personal growth and change. In Hindu culture, crows are thought to take the souls of deceased family. They're honoured during rituals as Shradh, in which offerings exist to them to make certain the spirits of the ancestors are at peace.
In norse (as we need to cover this) the crow is connected to Odin, the god of war and wisdom, that has 2 ravens, Muninn and Huginn, representing memory and thought. In this particular context, crows symbolise foresight and knowledge.
