Saint Michael the Archangel

Among the Hebrews, the name Michael has the means of, one who resembles God by physical appearance; he symbolizes humility before the Lord. The archangel has been mentioned in the book of Daniel and revelation. The main role being standing by the lord’s people at all times.

Saint Michael in the Roman Catholic Church

To the Roman Catholics, the reference of the archangel does not mean he has been canonized; neither does it for Saint Paul and Saint Paul. The Roman Catholics have attributed the archangel four roles; being the in chief of God’s army, carrying souls of the dead to God, giving the souls of the dead a chance to repent and guarding the church, however, the fourth role can be extended to guarding cities and nations.

Russians have also named one of their cities (Arkhangelsk) to honor the archangel. The Ukrainians have also dedicated their capital city to the Archangel for protection and patronage.

In 1851, the Anglicans established a sisterhood that they named Community of Saint Michael and All Angels in honor of Saint Michael. The Roman Catholics have also patronage the Congregation of Saint Michael the archangel to the Archangel.
