Sassafras has a long history that dates back to 1574 when it was discovered by some Spanish travelers.

The Spanish explorers associated the plant with the cure of malaria, fever, chills and related conditions. This gave the plant its name, “ague tree”. It had various applications among the ancient cultures, for instance, the North American Indians used it to cure sexually transmitted diseases, rheumatism, chills, colds and as a tonic for women after giving birth.

Sassafras oils is an additive to skin ointments especially liniments. The cure for rheumatism is also made when the chips are mixed with cayenne; prickly ash and camphor are incorporate into liniments. Combining sassafras with some elements makes it an essential drug in the cure of prostate issues in men.
