Dill is a member of the parsley family and also goes by the name Aneton, Dill weed, Dilly and Garden Dill.
It is masculine in gender and is associated with the power of the planet Mercury and with the element Fire. It is a popular culinary ingredient where it is usually used as flavoring, especially in fish dishes. Dill represents wealth in ancient Greece and this herb has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptians. The Romans considered Dill as a good luck cham. It was used to stimulate and strengthen gladiators. In the Middle Ages, aside from being used as a charm against witchcraft, Dill was burned to clear thunderstorms.

Dill seed may be used as incense and is considered appropriate for burning in certain love spells. It is also used for friendship, mental clarity and restfulness. In Shamanism, Dill seeds are tossed onto burning coals and the smoke is blown around to pacify and calm spirits that are agitated and angry.
