What it means when a ladybird lands on you
Ladybird lands on you
I do feel that ladybugs are about good luck, I am going to quickly let you know what it means for a ladybug to land on you.
- Things will get better - this means that something is going to change in life.
Wishes fulfilled - in many folklore traditions, whatever you think or wish when it lands will come true. - Financial blessing - how many spots means how many months of good luck are coming - in some traditions this is equivalent to pounds or dollars.
- Love arrives - a ladybug landing on you is French custom.
- The ladybug is associated with the Virgin Mary and its red mantle - in Christian tradition a landing is a small blessing from the divine.
- Messages from the ancestors - in some folk traditions a ladybug landing on you signifies that someone has passed and that things will be alright.
In a world so often heavy and out of control, that tiny ladybird landing on your body - tells you are seen, you are blessed, something good is coming.
Why you? Why did it land on you?
You have to understand that a ladybug landed on you. It did not land on the person beside you. It landed not on the wall, the fence or on the ground. It picked your hand, your arm or your shoulder out of all the things available to it. In my folklore books and societies in Europe, luck is not general - it is personal. It is directed, and some tiny thing decided you were worth stopping for. Counting the spots on the ladybug landing on you is a sign in many European folk traditions that months of good luck are coming your way. The most common number is seven, it has always been considered luckiest of all - associated with the seven days of creation, the seven notes of a musical scale, the seven classical planet. A seven-spotted ladybug landing on you was an especially strong omen.
Ladybug is also called ladybird in Britain, after Middle Ages farmers named the insect Our Lady's Bird. And in French tradition, when the ladybug lands on you it is suppose to be god luck. If the ladybug goes upward when flying away it is about focus on what serves you.
A message from spirit
In other folk customs, especially in parts of Eastern Europe and in some Native American peoples, a ladybug landing on you represents a message from an ancestor or parent who has passed away. So the message is always the same: I am near. Things will work out ok, you are not alone.
