Sunflower Dream Meaning

If you have had a dream about sunflowers this is a positive omen in most of my spiritual work. In Victorian times a sunflower is the English word for happiness, joy, hope and positive energy. In my meditations the sunflower is about opening up spiritually.

  • A field of sunflowers means abundance, success and joy.
  • Planting a sunflower can may mean good luck is on its way, this could be with money, work or family.
  • In Russia the sunflower spiritually is associated with home and harvest. This dream may therefore represent a sense of security and belonging as well.
  • When a tall sunflower is about moving forward in life.
  • If the sunflower is dead, dying or droopy then this can mean something expected, but according to my spiritual work it isn't a terrible omen. It usually means lost hope for something that you thought was important in the past.
  • A sunflower facing away from you in a dream means you may feel left out.
It may also mean you've shifted from what makes you happy.
  • If you saw a sunflower field then this is about the fact you are likely to encounter someone that will help you going forward.  In my older dream books this is a sign of loyalty or unseen love.
  • If we look back in time the sunflower was eaten and dyed in many countries. The way you see the sunflower is very important.

What does it mean to see a sunflower in a dream?

As I have said before, a sunflower seen in a dream to me, means good things. In some of my dream books it is about looking for the light, of remaining you of positive things to come, and of growing as a person. I think that dreaming of sunflowers may have been a sign that good things are coming or that you are in a hopeful season in life.

What is the spiritual meaning of a sunflower?

If we look at folklore, Clytie was in love with the sun god. She watched him cross the sky everyday when he left her until she became a sun-facing flower. And over time, people linked this story to the sunflowers spiritual meaning. Hence the flower represents loyalty, devotion and love.

What does sunflower seeds mean?

Seeing yourself, sowing seeds to me, means there is a new beginning. This could be a new job, relationship, project or life may be beginning of something very exciting. Eating sunflower seeds may mean you're feeding yourself rest, learning, or even healthy habits. It could also be a lesson in patience. I always think that seeds tend to indicates you are pricing in some sort of doubt.

And what does it mean when somebody gives you sunflowers?

In the dream, if you give someone sunflowers then it can mean: love, friendship, admiration. The person giving these sunflowers might care about you more than you realize.
If the person is a stranger then it can indicate kindness or good news.

What color was the sunflower?

We need to also look at the color of sunflowers, most of the sunflowers in dreams are yellow, representing joy, energy and warmth. But, seeing a dull or dark sunflower may indicate sadness or low energy. A very bright, glowing sunflower usually represents great optimism for the future. Symbolically (regardless of color) I think the sunflower represents faith and following the light. Just as the flower points to the sun, your dream might be asking you to look to what gives you strength, faith, family or your own inner voice.

In summary, sunflower dreams tend to be light and positive. Even the sad ones, a dying flower,  are messages to care for yourself or to let something go.
