Submarine
What does a submarine mean in your dream?
In my older dream books from the 1930s, a submarine could be the omen of troubles. To dream that you are on submarine and it explodes means things are going to get out of hand. If you dream of launching a submarine, it indicates that you will have to clarify misunderstandings with a person of the opposite sex. In my view, to dream of a submarine is the inability to actually "see" what's coming. If we think about the submarine it is all about being deep down in the sea.
The submarine is a stong symbol it may seem rather random or that it does not mean anything. We need to look into your subconsious mind, and try to convey what it means. The submarine symbolizes your own power to go seriously into your subconscious and also go into "the deeper things" in real life. Additionally, as you are protected by the submarine, you may sense safety regarding diving deeper into the depths of the mind.
What does it mean to dream of a submarine?
Dream about being inside the submarine is about going very deep. Way down where the pressure is insane, where light doesn't reach, where secrets hide in the murky darkness of your own emotional ocean. This to me, means something simple: you are trying to explore your deepest, darkest emotional depths while simultaneously staying above it all, and to not get drawn into all the crap in life. You can't do both my friend. You just can't. It's like trying to drown and breathe at the same time.
Dreaming of a yellow submarine is associated with the need to investigate your hidden emotional states. The submarine is the symbol of emotionality, especially its aspects that cannot be easily reached. If the submarine in your dream is broken and water enters into it, this is a sign of warning. Such a dream refers to your need to enter those hidden emotions and understand them better.
A submarine could refer to an indiscretion you had in the past that had a negative impact on your life. Being in a submarine in a dream foretells that you will receive some upsetting news.
The specific scenarios that change everything If you were steering the submarine yourself, that's different from being a passenger. Driving the thing means you think you're in charge of your own emotional journey (spoiler: you're not, not really). Being a passenger means you're letting someone or something else drive your descent into feelings, which might mean you're finally ready to surrender control. If the submarine was military, that's about defending yourself emotionally. You're fortified. Armed. Ready for attack. You've turned vulnerability into a tactical mission instead of an organic experience.
If the submarine was more like a glass bubble or observation vessel, you're willing to look at your depths but not actually get wet. You want to witness your emotions, study them, understand them - but not feel them. If other people were in the submarine with you, pay attention to who they were. Those are the people you're trying to stay emotionally close to while maintaining distance from. Those are your intimacy contradictions made flesh. The part where I get mad on your behalf You know what makes me furious? Society tells you to "do the work" and "go deep" and "be vulnerable" while simultaneously punishing you every time you actually do it. You share your truth and people call you dramatic. You cry and you're too emotional. And, to set boundaries means you're difficult.
So of course you created a flying submarine in your dream. Of course you did. Because you've been conditioned to believe that real vulnerability is dangerous, that true emotional depth will drown you, that if you really let people see the broken parts they'll abandon you.
What happens if you keep having this dream recurring?
Dreams don't just repeat - they intensify. If you keep ignoring what this dream is telling you. Maybe the submarine crashes. Maybe it is flying and plummets into the ocean. Maybe it sinks so deep you can't surface. Maybe it flies so high it burns up in the atmosphere.
This is a metaphor for your emotional avoidance showing up as emotional courage, until you finally get it. And if you don't get it through dreams, you'll get it through life. Through relationships that fail because you won't really show up. Through opportunities you miss because you won't take real risks. Through a persistent emptiness that no amount of flying above your problems can cure. The actual way forward (no crap, just facts) You need to choose. Not forever - you can choose differently in different chapters of life - but for right now, you need to choose. Are you diving or are you flying?
