What does grief mean in your dream?

Spiritually as a medium I know that sometimes you can feel grief in a dream and many dream books call this visitation dreams. I know that dreaming of someone passing and having actual grief can be worrying. I have to be honest about that before we go on to the next step. Having lost a loved one, the dream is less likely to be a message, it is more like a massive healing process going on.

Not all dreams are about the loss of a person. Sometimes people have more generalized grief dreams without a specific person.

What it means to dream about grief?

Firstly, no-one is going to come along and say that your dreams are proof that a spirit really crossed over and stopped by your front door, or that they're just your brain going nuts. I'll just say this: any dream where you see loved ones who have recently died are a relatively universal human experience.

Celtic folklore, for instance, talks about the living briefly seeing recently deceased ancestors in a happy, liminal space called "Tuaision," between life and death. West African books that I have hold the belief that a passed loved one appears in order to remind us of what is important in life and that is you. To understand this dream, some people have emailed me about the grief dream and said it is real proof of crossing over in life.

What is the biblical meaning of grief?

I find that there is not much in the bible about grief but we can see it, in John 11:35 because this scripture shows he is weeping openly, openly, at the tomb of the resurrected Lazarus (John 11: 11-16). A "Time To Grieve" is not a sign of weakness, it is the apostle Matthew's "beatitudes" (Matthew 5:4) who really promises that those who mourn are most certainly comforted.

Another common version of a grief dream that I come across is that of meeting or being with your loved one in a better physical state, they look younger and more well than they were in life. This is by far the most common kind of grief dream in this category, and one I most often find comforting. People on email report to me a more positive outlook when they have this dream.

I find funeral dreams less dark and in spiritual terms is about celebration of life. In my many dream books, a funeral symbolizes an ending, so this can mean that we may find something ends in life. More commonly, however, your dream indicates that you are having an internal funeral for a part of yourself you are letting go of, such as: The death of an idea or relationship. A phase of life, such as studenthood, coming to an end. It might mean you are coming to the end of an activity. Seeing you own funeral specifically has very little to do with your fear of dying and much more to do with some process of personal transition you are undergoing.

Summary

However this dream showed up for you, I believe a grief dream is your own healing or a cycle will end which is just part of life's journey. If you have dealt with grief in recent times, and perhaps some other life issues along with it, you may realize that this dream could be a reflection of reality.
