Caged Bird

Caged Bird

Uncover Hidden Dream Meanings

The bird is often seen as a good omen in dreams, and is a universal symbol of freedom of expression. A caged bird, of course, does not have any freedom, so something in your life is being challenged when the caged bird appears in your dreams.

Although birds are generally a good omen, a caged bird can be something entirely different. This good omen is trapped inside a small area, with no idea of when or if it will ever escape. The caged bird in your dream is usually hopeless because it sees life pass it by and can do nothing to act on it.

For this reason, the caged bird can represent hopelessness. If a caged bird appears in your dream, you are feeling very unsure about a situation or else you feel helpless to do anything about something negative. If the bird in your dream does not become freed, it shows that you are not working hard enough to do something and be proactive about the negative situation. You need to learn to stand up for yourself and let your voice be heard.

In your dream you may have

  • Encountered a caged bird.
  • Turned into a caged bird.
  • Felt trapped like a caged bird.
  • Talked to a caged bird.
  • Placed a bird in a cage.
  • Freed a bird from a cage.
  • Watched a bird escape.
  • Felt sorry for the caged bird.
  • Tried to free the bird but were unsuccessful.
  • Saved a bird from becoming caged.
  • Escaped from a cage yourself.

Positive changes are afoot if

  • The bird (or you as a bird) escaped from the cage.
  • The bird spent a short amount of time in the cage.
  • The bird was only in the cage to be nursed back to health.

Detailed dream interpretation

If the bird in the cage does escape this can be a good sign. It shows that soon you will do something to get out of a bad situation. You may talk your way out of a speeding ticket or talk to your boss about getting a promotion.

If the bird in the cage is surrounded by other birds who are outside of the cage, you have probably been feeling judged or unaccepted by your peers, family, coworkers, or friends. You feel as if everybody is watching you and that nobody really knows the true you. What you present on the outside is not necessarily how you feel on the inside, so people are judging you for something superficial and untrue.

If there are several caged birds with you in your cage, or if there are several people staring into the cage, then there are some people around you that should not be a part of your life. You will soon be distancing yourself from people who keep you feeling trapped or who let you feel like you are worth less than you are.

If you help the bird escape from the cage or save the bird from initial capture, then you are demonstrating an extreme act of selflessness. Someone will soon thank you for something nice you have done or a selfless act you have performed. If you do not seek recognition for something, it will come to you anyway.

If you tried to free the caged bird but you were unsuccessful, it is another sign that you are losing control over things in your life. If you had a conversation with a caged bird in your dream, you may be feeling like there are not many friends who support you through the problems in your life.
