Broken Finger Dream Meaning

What does a broken finger mean in a dream?

Broken Finger Dream Meaning

In my spiritual work, fingers are kind of tools.

We use them everyday, we hold something with them, we point with them, we create with them, so this dream is a little bit spooky if you have broken them. If you have ever broken a finger, you will know how crazy it is without them and also that it takes years to heal. Right, so you want to know what this means in your dream? It is all about something broken in life. In my spiritual work I always see this as something that can be adjusted somehow, like something is broken but you can fix it.

In my view, a broken finger in a dream tends to tell you that something significant in your physical world has been upset, rather than a broad area of your physical self. A broken finger seen in a dream suggests that something narrow in your normal life has been messed up in the area of activity you are dreaming about. To see someone else have broken fingers can indicate finding something out, and that you may feel maternal towards someone.

When your index finger (the finger we use to point and direct others) is broken, it may mean, in the dream world, a lack of confidence and assertiveness. I feel it is like an inability to lead or direct in a certain situation. Likewise, a dream featuring a broken middle finger (literally the longest of all of your fingers) may relate to a current lack of stability or a lack of equilibrium in your life, or in the dream situation.

The ring finger is associated with commitment or romantic partnership, which I am sure you will know, whereas a broken thumb relates to fundamental control over a particular situation or scenario. I know you may not remember which finger the dream was about, but sitting down to think about it can help give you some insight.

So is a broken finger a bad or good sign in your dream?

I don't read it as an omen of real injury or as punishment for anything. What I hear underneath it, almost every time spiritually, is you being frustrated, a sense that something you normally do with ease has suddenly become difficult or impossible, at least for now. That's uncomfortable, but it isn't a complete failure. A break in the bone also implies healing is possible. Nobody dreams a permanently, unfixably broken finger. The dream carries its own sort of promise that whatever's been broken can heal itself back together.

What the Bible says about fingers

The Bible has quite a lot to say about the finger itself, even though it never mentions broken fingers directly. The finger becomes an interesting symbol for the power and the precision of the Almighty more often than you might guess. One very common phrase is "the finger of God" (Exodus 8:19). In Exodus 31:18, the Ten Commandments, which he wrote "with his finger," become a new means to describe the hand of the Creator. Psalm 8:3 speaks poetically of heaven, "the work of thy fingers," an astonishing description of God's greatest accomplishment using a word more often associated with minuteness than with majesty.

I find that detail worth sitting with when people come to me with dreams of a broken finger. Scripture consistently uses a finger as a symbol of precise power rather than brute force, fine detail and intentional action rather than big, massive moves. I'd say that at the core of a broken finger dream is a moment when your capacity to sort things out has been interrupted.

There's also the story in Daniel 5, where the fingers of a disembodied hand write a message on the wall for the king's dinner guests, a clear sign of what's to come if action isn't taken. I think that's something to keep in mind when you think about your own broken finger dream too: even when scripture is difficult to see and hear, fingers in scripture almost never seem to be random.

What does this dream mean in my old dream books?

It does not mention about all the other fingers, I can't find anything about broken fingers on the love finger. If it was your "love finger" that broke, as I have said before there is a belief that one of the fingers has a special vein that connects directly to the heart, the vena amoris or vein of love, is thought to have originated in ancient Egypt, though the Roman empire also spread it. But it isn't medically true, it's just the old belief that was perpetuated in choosing where to wear the wedding band.

This means you may have a relationship, partnership, or commitment right now that feels as strained and out of sorts as a broken fingernail, but I'm betting the dream isn't actually telling you there is a problem. In reality, I think the dream is a sign, a sort of reminder, really, that there could be a problem.

In my older books, if you dream of a broken hand then this is about moving away to somewhere better. This could be in the mind of physically.

What about the pain of a broken finger?

If you dream about a broken finger that hurts, basically means that there could be a painful. If you dream about a broken finger that hurts, basically means that there could be a painful relationship, it can also things have been halted in life. It's more often a sign of numbness from not taking action on something. If someone else broken their fingers then this is about making sure that something is focused in life. The finger in the Bible, trust that God made you with one primary purpose: to heal and create good order in your environment. And his plan allows you the chance to do exactly that work in this very life.

Summary

As I have said above, when you dream of breaking your finger, it's not so much about your whole finger as it is about how the finger functions and works in the human hand. In different ways, depending on which finger breaks, the symbols in a broken finger dream point toward issues of trust and control in certain areas of your daily life, rather than a deeper problem with your overall trust issues in life.

So, a break on the ring finger of your right hand isn't so bad. All it says, first of all, is that the person is frustrated and upset. Also remember that there always is a promise of healing with a break. Whether the dream feels painful or numb is also important, because, in my view a painful dream, means that something in your life is difficult for you. The point is the same either way, the core meaning of the dream of broken fingers, whether painful or not, is that a certain point of your life needs your attention.
