Bagpipes Dream Meaning

Hearing bagpipes in a dream

Bagpipe dream meaning

I sit with dreams for thirty years and I sort of shiver whenever somebody says bagpipes came into their sleep. It isn't your normal dream. It is not like imagining losing your teeth or even flying, which nearly everyone has done at least one time. Bagpipes are rare and I think rare dream symbols say more about you the universe saved something just for you.

What does this mean?

Think about it: bagpipes use air, breath and pressure. The bag must be squeezed, filled, held. In dreams this implies something you've been holding onto, maybe for an extremely long. Have you been cramming one thing down inside you and in the dream it comes out loud and unavoidably Then there is the drone. Bagpipes never quite stop; Always that low steady hum under the melody. I believe hum is something that stays constant in your waking world. A worry that never totally disappears. A feeling under your days, when you're smiling on top.

I always think of this dream like the Chariot tarot card, this card is about 2 forces pulling in opposite directions but going anyway ahead by will. Bagpipes work the way air is pressed one of the ways, the noise the other and something beautiful arises from that tension. If you dreamed bagpipes, I believe The Chariot is asking each of you to notice where two parts of your personality are pulling at you and to think you can still pull yourself ahead with strength.

Colors in your dream

I believe colour changes the meaning a little so remember what you remember.

  • Red or tartan patterns: I feel this is  about passion, family and place. Tartan is also associated with ancestry and root.
  • Black: This might be mourning or farewell. To see black bagpipes are frequently served at funerals - black in the dream could be your unconscious processing grief or an end.
  • Green: This particular colour says basically: growth, of the land, of something natural trying yet again to live in you.
  • Gold or bright yellow: I believe that means celebration is close. A gathering, a wedding - a homecoming.

When bagpipes sound while you sleep something is saying. Watch what happens right after the sounds in your dream as I believe that's what the message is. Wales has its own love of music which echoes over land and a few old beliefs hold that sounds carried on wind were messages from those before us (ancestors telling us the living aren't forgotten.) Therefore, bagpipes have that wandering, echoing quality too. If you woke up to bagpipes and felt something warm instead of afraid, a relative or ancestor may be sending you strength, if the dream was warm and not eery.

It's believed that hearing pipe music in the dream (particularly without having a piper) to me this implies a message is coming over to you from someplace a long way away - perhaps from somebody you have not heard of in a quite a while. Another superstition goes something such as this: in case the piper in your dreams comes away from you, a page in your life is closing with peace, not dissapointment. When the piper comes towards you, something totally new is coming and you should be ready for it.

What is this dream saying to you?

I think bagpipes in'a dream are hardly ever randomly dreamed. They pop up  when something inside you wants to come out loud instead of hidden. Maybe you have been avoiding the subject of a family issue, friend or a change you fear. You'll know precisely to which part of your life that this connects, because dreams like these usually hit the thing we have been running away from.

If the dream felt happy, I believe great news, a gathering, or a proud moment is coming your way. If the dream was heavy or sad, your heart is processing an ending, that is ok. Endings may be loud sometimes.

Trust what you felt even more that everything you saw. In my view, the bagpipes had been the messenge.
