The attribute of Lion mainly corresponds to strength. The fact that it is associated with the night symbolizes dream, power, and order.

Most ancient civilization thought lion was a solar animal. The truth is, lions are nocturnal species, and it hunts its prey during the darkest of night. Incidentally due to this misconception of being a solar animal, lion was able to tap to both the light and dark world. The lion successfully found a balance between night and day. This reminds us to remain cautious of our self, find a balance in our life and actions. Besides bearing the main attributes strength here are some traits that the lion also possess. In esoteric studies, a lion appears in the Tarot as an illustration of strength in the card of the Major Arcana.

During the medieval period, lions are used as a crest to during wars to represent courage, bravery, and royalty. Lion crests have been used by the country of Denmark, Finland, Jerusalem, Spain Ireland, Netherlands and many more. Lion imagery began during the Stone Age, when an image of a lioness was found hunting with the lions. In Egypt, the Goddess of warrior and healing is depicted as a lioness; it has been told that her breath caused the desert to appear. Sekhmet is also the protector of the pharaoh. Moreover, the Egyptians portray Lions as a representation of sun. They also believed that a lion God named Aker guards the gateway to the netherworld. The great Sphinx of Giza also possesses the body of a lion.

In ancient Indian civilizations, lions are used as symbols of dynasties, the figure of lions standing back to back was used during the Maura Dynasty. Mayan and Aztec describe the lion as a warrior. In fact they have an ancient belief that their warriors change into cats, and the one who can transform as a lion is the greatest warrior of them all. In Greek Mythology a lion is often seen battling with Heracles. The Nemean lion is a vicious monster and is included with Heracles 12 jobs. The lion is also one of the Astrological sign. Leo is the 5th sign of the zodiac, its leader planet is said to be the Sun.

The superiority of the lion can be traced back to the book of “Physiologus” an early Christian Bible, which has a vast influence on the western culture. While its royalty symbol is used to depict valor and courage of various prominent people like Henry the Lion. All lions have the capability to affect themselves and their surroundings positively or negatively. They also possess a laudable sense of loyalty. They are willing to fight till the end to defend their family and honor. Dreaming a lion represents that we should get in touch with our emotional life, this may also mean that we are being attacked and we are in a position to defend our self. The lion always reminds us to be proud, to showcase our strength and show them who the real authority is. Defend those who are dear to you with all might and glory.
